not always. I usually dont get there until its already started. I usually try to sit where the camera cant get me anyways. I hate cameras.

Parents from Pound who complained at a July school board meeting about a summer decision to split a single band director among their high school and JJ Kelly High got thier wish Monday night.

Among a list of personnel changes that was approved in a 7-1 vote by the county school board was the hiring of Steven Stiltner, a full-time band director for Pound High School. Aaron Meyer, who had previously been tapped to serve as a part-time band director and music teacher for both Pound and Kelly was transferred to a full-time job at the Wise school.

According to schools personnel director Alice Williams, administrators are still actively recruiting for another full-time band director. Coeburn High School and St. Paul High School still share one employee for that position.

Betty Cornett, who represents District Three, was the only board memeber who voted against the list of new hires, transfers, retirements and resignations.

Her beef with the school system administration's recommendations was clear. She entered a substitute motion to approve all the changes except the proposed hiring of a new marketing teacher for Powell Valley High School, Jeremy Salyers, who will also serve as a head baseball coach, replacing Brad Hart. That motion, in which Cornett asked for the school system to "continue recruiting for someone with a business and marketing background," died for a lack of a second.

Other changes that were approved included:

Vickie Blevins, as a Pound High School janatorial assistan, replacing Shirley Branson;

Caroline Baker as an Appalachia High School and Appalachia Elementary art teacher; replacing Miranda Peters;

Jarrad Addison, as a Coeburn High School bus driver, replacing Shane Adkins;

Doug Ashley, as a Powell Valley High School bus driver, replacing Roger Roarrk; and

Shane Romine, as a JJ Kelly High School in-school suspension coordinator replacing Jared Coffey.


TRANSFERS

Nathaniel Maggard, from a bus driving position for Coeburn High School to a similar position at JJ Kelly replacing Virginia Collier.

Cindy Darter from an instructional secretary position at the counth schools central office to an information systems clerk position at the same office, replacing Betty Sexton;

Debbie Boone, from a receptionsit position at the central office to an instructional secretary at the same office, replacing Cindy Darter.

RETIREMENT

Diana L Freeman retired from her position as a mathematics specialist at the UVa-Wise center for Teaching Excellence, for which the county school system acts as a fiscal agen.

RESIGNATIONS

Cheryl Estep, from her position as a Virtual Virginia Advanced Placement teacher at the county Career Technical Center, effective July 1

Virginia Collier, from her position as a bus driver, effective July 26;

Pamela Dotson from her position as a Pound High School cook, effective July 25;

Thomas Gilliam declined a position at the Wise Skills Center thatwas approved by the board in July;

Rebecca Arnott, from her position as a Regional Adult Edication assessment specialist, for which thegrand funding was completed, effective July 1; and

Shane Bray, from the inschool suspension coordiantor position at Appalachia High and Elementary schools, effective Aug. 8
